Skagen - where they keep the light. I had always wanted to visit the most northernly tip of Denmark. Growing up in Canada, I somehow fell in love with the cold, ultimately studying northern environmental studies in uni and on an exchange to Fairbanks Alaska (and ironically, find my husband). The rugged windy vastness in Skagen drew me in and reminded me of the North I fell so desperately in love with. And after climbing the sand dunes that unveiled this view, I understood what draws artists here year after year in search of light. I now happily call Denmark home ❤️

We knew we had fruit trees but we didn’t know we had 2 producing cherry trees 😍 The beautiful cherry blossom trees that line our street do not produce cherries, but 2 in our yard do a I’ve been in cherry heaven 🍒 (we have 2 more fruit trees that have yet to fully reveal what they will produce)

Kate’s Room reveal! My daughter chose an image off Pinterest of a room she loved with a rainbow on the wall and dolls at the foot of the bed. I did my best to bring it to life for her with her own spin on it. Her room is bigger than her brothers and she also has a dressing room/doll house room attached to her bedroom (I’ll post it tomorrow). I use to spend hours in my room alone when I was a child and Kate is exactly the same. I love that we have a space like this for her 🌈❤️

Bedroom reveal!!

Though it’s only been 4 months since we got the keys to our new place, it sometimes feels like a lifetime when you’re doing renovations. We actually took a break this week until we start again in 2 weeks, just to enjoy the summer a bit. We thought we were finished with big purchases, but unfortunately this week we had to buy a new gas cooktop and a new washing machine 😳 Not exactly small or inexpensive items.

The first thing I finished in the house was the kids bedrooms. They were livable right away and I slowly added things to complete their themes (what they chose).

Teddy loooooves animals so that’s what he wanted for his room. Besides a farm, an African safari is where you find ALL the animals, so that’s what he got 😊. We bought the teak bed second hand and found a new mattress that fit its odd size. A lot of the decor is from @hmhome, the light fixture @ikeadanmark and the plastic free wall sticker from @made_of_sundays, an incredible little shop out of Finland. They sent a hand written note thanking me for my purchases 👌🏻

The kids rooms are my favourite in the house. I had so much fun putting them together ❤️ I will post Kate’s tomorrow 🌈

The books we read today to celebrate our Métis roots. This Canada Day for us, was about reflecting, learning and standing in solidarity with the Indigenous People of Canada even though we are so far away. This past month has been heartbreaking, eye opening, devastating. My hope is for healing for those who need it, and a better understanding for those who didn’t. I have heard so many good quotes the last few weeks, but this one especially rings true: “if you want to honour the babies who never made it home, support the ones who did”

We took the canal tour of Copenhagen, 14 years since the first time we went on it. Denmark has gone through a heat wave and through we were so excited to have a day, just the 2 of us, we went home early for a cold shower 😂 it was THAT hot. Maybe the canal tour wasn’t the best idea in 28 degree heat, full sun 🤦🏼‍♀️ However, we did see the Queen’s ship which apparently isn’t parked there that often and also saw someone bungee jump into the sea, and thousands of Danes jumping into the cool water from the sides of the canal. The city was certainly alive 🌞
