I love Halloween. I have planned our costumes out months in advance for years. As my children are getting a bit older, they are less interested in dressing up together, so I had to make sure we went out with a bang. Home Alone and Home Alone Lost in New York are my favourite holiday movies having grown up watching them both and I look forward to Christmas each year because of them. Both my kids love Home Alone and it’s definitely due to the exposure they got. I confess that we watch it year round. It’s the movie I want to watch when I’m sick or want to feel nostalgic and cosy. Finding it on tv is always a treat around the holidays. Get the Look – Home Alone’s Kevin McCallister
We kind of did a hybrid of both movies as finding costumes was a bit of a challenge (I took the guesswork out of it for you by providing a link to shop the look), but you definitely get the idea. I recommend starting with what you have at home and building on that. It’s what I do for all our Halloween costumes. My costume (I’m Harry) is made up of all clothes I already had plus my husbands wool coat and black toque. My daughters outfit (Kate McCallister) is also all from her closet. We just added the wig and some clip on earrings. My son was Kevin McCallister and luckily, since the look is timeless, he was able to wear the clothes long after Halloween. He calls the green coat his Home Alone coat 🙂 My Hubby was Marv and I found his long coat and vest at a thrift store and ordered the wig online. Finally, our pup was a police officer. I found the costume here on amazon, I ordered an XXXL as she’s a lab.
This Halloween was one for the books though, and not in a good way. My daughter was asleep before 5, our son cried most of the evening and there was torrential rain, so we basically had to cancel trick or treating, which was super disappointing. However, I’m still glad we got in the spirit and dressed up. Halloween will look a little different this year, bit we can still make it fun for our little ones. Dress them up, take photos, hide candy around the house, play halloween music, eat by candlelight, play board games and enjoy the night regardless.
Because this look is cute enough to also just be an everyday outfit, it was trending with men as well a couple of years ago.
