I love throwing birthday parties for my kids. I plan them months in advance and start coming up with ideas and buying and finding decorations that will fit. I love browsing Pinterest for ideas and then sourcing what I already have and finding items to complete the theme. I also keep leftover decor from other parties we’ve had like our Oscar/Academy Awards Night. Keeping the theme simple for the Oscar/Academy Awards party – black, white and gold, I was able to pull leftover decor from it and use for the One Wild Year party, like the black and white striped treat bags (in the photo below). Here is One Wild Year 1st Birthday Inspiration. You could also throw a Woodland or Lumberjack themed party with this decor
As it was a winter birthday, we had a campfire outside with Smores, hot chocolate and sparklers. Since my son’s birthday is the last day in November, it’s super close to Christmas, allowing me to use some of my garlands, and a wreath we already had up. We made pulled pork sandwiches and had lots of snacks, fruit and vegetables.
Use What You Already Have
If you add in some buffalo print, wood and gold details, you get the overall look. I also used black and white in my colour scheme. We used animals and mini wreathes we already had, along with decor like gold candle holders, a gold tray, a wood cutting board, a wood crate, a black and white striped vase, a chalk board and our copper Moscow mule cups.
Source It
We sourced a few new items to help tie things together. Most of it was found at Party City. We added the buffalo plaid paper cups, gold treat boxes, black and white striped paper straws and mini chalk board signs. I also wrapped my sons present in buffalo plaid wrapping paper that I found at Winners.
I hope this post gave you some inspiration on how to easily throw together a One Wild Year 1st Birthday, Woodland Forest or Lumberjack birthday party. For a birthday theme for girls check out my Mermaid Birthday post here
[…] Every year I let my daughter pick a theme for her birthday. Having been in the wedding industry for years, I really enjoy throwing a party and all the details that go along with it. For her 5th birthday, my daughter chose to have a mermaid birthday party. It would have been easy to pick up The Little Mermaid themed decorations, plates cups and banner at Party City, but I enjoy sourcing something a bit different to fill her day with pretty things. If you’re looking for inspiration for boys birthdays check out my post here […]
