On the Anniversary of the first day of their last tour
Teddy celebrates Good Downie and The Tragically Hip, one of my favourite bands. There is perhaps no band more Canadian, more resonating or more relevant to me. It was the soundtrack of my youth. Introduced to them by my parents, I soon found myself stealing my Step Dad’s Hip CD’s and listening to them in my room, my older brother later confirming they were in fact, cool.
I won tickets to one of their shows, Another Road Side Attraction, where Gord was so beyond magnetic on stage, like lightening; I couldn’t look away. I watched him light up the sky, in awe. I saw them two more times after that including their last show, Man Machine Poem Tour before Gord departed. I also met Gord one time, serving him at the Universal Records after party during the 2007 Juno Awards. The man was sweet as pie, and despite my young age and all the other musicians there that night, I was solely star struck by him.
So thank you Gord, and The Tragically Hip for the music. You will live on through your songs continuing to inspire the next generation of music lovers, like this one (he knows your music).
